Stripes ‘N Kayaks Challenge Rules
These are the rules which must be adhered to during the Stripes ‘N Kayaks – Perch Only / Kayak Fishing Competition
- Anglers must hold a valid EA rod license before commencing fishing.
- Fishing must cease during thunderstorms.
- The event organizer or Bewl Water management reserves the right to stop fishing at any time.
- Only artificial lures are allowed. No live or dead bait, natural or organic baits, or fly fishing.
- No trolling from any kayak is allowed, but drift fishing is permitted.
- Only human-powered kayaks (pedals/paddles) are allowed.
- Pike, perch, and trout must not be removed from the water.
- You may have any number of rods on the kayak, but only one rod can be used at a time.
- All boat fishing rules apply.
- Juniors aged 10 and over may fish if accompanied by an adult over 21 and must remain within 20 meters of the adult.
- Life jackets/PFDs are mandatory and must be worn before entering the launch area.
- Anchoring is prohibited.
- Adhere to no-fishing boundaries:
- Maintain a distance of 50 meters from the boat jetty.
- Keep 50 meters away from the Aqua Park.
- Stay at least 50 meters from the dam and tower.
- Respect the nature reserve boundaries; do not cross the orange buoys or cast into the reservation.
- Approach no closer than 15 meters to cages, and do not touch or tie to them, or other objects like moored boats and buoys.
- Participants are responsible for securely mooring their kayaks in designated areas. The organizer and Bewl Water will not be responsible for any losses.
- Raise the alarm immediately in case of a problem by calling one of the provided numbers or Competition HQ.
- Kayak anglers must use the Angling Live application to upload their fish. Each participant must download Angling Live on their smartphone.
- Each contestant must have a landing net, a mat, and unhooking equipment. Use only tape measure styles, not printed-on-the-mat ones. Unhooking mats are required, and all trout must be returned alive. If a trout is badly hooked, it must be killed and handed to the fishery staff.
- The measure must be wide with a clearly visible scale. The plastic end should be placed by the head of the fish while it is laying on its right flank with the nose touching the measure’s zero end. The zero end must be on the left side at all times. You can stretch the tail of the fish. Measure fish in full centimetres (cm). For example, a fish measuring 45.3 cm will be counted as 46 cm, and a fish measuring 45.9 cm will also be counted as 46 cm. Perch minimum size is 22 cm (21.5 cm or under will not be accepted).
- Each contestant will receive a unique sticker for the competition day. The sticker must be visible on the measure near the fish when the picture is uploaded to the Angling Live application. No sticker means no fish will be accepted.
- Anglers must have third-party public liability insurance to fish from a kayak in the competition.
