Event organiser: The Wild Minnow Ltd in partnership with Bewl Water and other sponsors.
The format: The competition format requires participants to catch 1 Trout, 1 Pike, and 5 Perch (no minimum size) each day. The winner will be determined by the total length of all fish caught over both days.
Application: Participants must use the Active Angling application to upload their catches.
Bewl Water Kayak Fishing Challenge Rules
These are the rules which must be adhered to during the Bewl Water Kayak Fishing Competition.
- Fishing must cease during thunderstorms.
- Anglers must hold a valid EA rod license.
- The event organizer or Bewl Water management may stop the event at any time.
- Once your trout is caught for the competition, targeting trout must stop.
- Only artificial lures are allowed. No live or dead bait, organic bait, or fly fishing.
- No trolling from kayaks is permitted, but drift fishing is allowed.
- Trolling motors are prohibited.
- Use an unhooking mat when handling large fish. Fish can be taken to the nearest bank for safe measurement if help is needed.
- Pike, perch, and trout must not be removed from the water.
- Wire traces are mandatory when targeting pike.
- Multiple rods may be on the kayak, but only one rod can be in use at any time.
- All boat fishing rules apply.
- Juniors aged 10 and over may fish if accompanied by an adult over 21 and must remain within 20 meters of the adult.
- Life jackets/PFDs are mandatory and must be worn before entering the launch area.
- Anchoring is prohibited, but drogues/parachutes are allowed.
- Keep a 50-meter distance from banks, fishing boats, nature reserves, and other reservoir structures.
- Kayaks must maintain a 50-meter distance from each other during the competition.
- All kayak fishing must stop if winds exceed force 5 (19 mph), and participants should return to safe mooring areas.
- Participants are responsible for securing their kayaks in designated areas.
- In case of emergency, raise the alarm via the provided phone numbers.
- All fish must be uploaded via the Angling Live app.
- Participants must have a landing net, unhooking mat, and proper measuring equipment (not printed on the mat).
- Measurements must be taken using a wide measuring board with a visible scale, and the fish must be photographed on its right flank.
- A unique competition sticker must be visible in the photograph; no sticker means the catch is invalid.
- Format: Each participant must catch 1 Trout, 1 Pike, and 5 Perch (no minimum size) per day. The total length of all fish caught over both days will determine the winner.
- Participants must have insurance (third-party public liability).
Camping:
Competitors requiring camping must follow Bewl Water site rules. Please keep the area tidy and maintain quiet after 10:00 PM.
